Severna Park and its surrounding communities are located between the eastern shore of the Severn River and the northwestern shore of the Magothy River, with a population size of 37,634 as of 2010. This town is located only 17 miles south of Baltimore and just a short drive from Washington D.C. and a few short miles to the Capital, Annapolis

The area was believed to have originated in 1906 when Oscar Hatton won the land in a contest. Severna Park, nicknamed “The Park”, was a stop along the Baltimore and Annapolis Railroad, but is now well known for some of its historical buildings, like the Robinson House and the Severn School, which was built in 1914.

This community is located very close to the water, and offers many outdoor activities for those of all ages. Many communities have beaches or green spaces along the water, as well as private and community marinas for boat enthusiasts. These spaces allow for community gatherings as well as different opportunities to participate in water sports, such as swimming, fishing, crabbing or boating.

While real estate costs and cost of living are higher than average, the spectacular river views and homes are well worth it. The median home cost is $464,100, while the cost of living in the Severna Park area is slightly higher, compared to the average of Maryland.

The Severna Park area offers plenty of places to dine with many different cuisines; ranging from fresh seafood to Italian, the options are endless.

Food stores include a new Harris Teeter, Giant, Food Lion and Safeway

There are some shopping options in Severna Park, but within a short drive, The Westfield Annapolis Mall and the Arundel Mills Mall can be found.

Severna Park -  Parks & Recreation

Severna Park offers many outdoor options with plenty of trails. A very popular landmark in town is called the Baltimore and Annapolis Trail (B&A Trail), as it was the old rail line for the Baltimore Annapolis Railway. This paved path spans 13.3 miles and is host to marathons, half marathons, as well as everyday walkers, joggers and bikers.

The area also has many outdoor parks that have playgrounds for children, such as Cypress Creek Park and Kinder Park; which has small petting zoo.  The town also has a community center that provides programs for children with a variety of interests. The Severna Park Community Center also has a large gymnasium for individual and team sports, such as volleyball and basketball; as well as two pools and three dance studios.


Schools, Health, and Transportation

Severna Park and the surrounding area have many schools that have been ranked as top schools in Maryland. The NEW state of the art, Severna Park High School, which opened its doors in 2017 and Severna Park Middle School have been ranked in the top 15 of the state, while many elementary schools have been awarded as Blue Ribbon Schools. The Severna Park area also has a graduation rate that is 8% higher than the Maryland average. Severna Park also features one of the largest private schools in the area, with an average class size of 14 and with 100% of the students continuing their education and applying to college.

Severna Park is split by Ritchie Highway, which runs between Baltimore and Annapolis straight through the town. This allows for easy commutes to and from work, especially for those working in Washington D.C. and the Baltimore areas.

Highly rated hospitals are located anywhere from 15-40 minutes away and included the Anne Arundel Medical Center, Johns Hopkins Hospital, St Agnes Medical Center, Mercy Medical Center, Union Memorial Hospital, and University of Maryland Medical Center.
